The Washington Post recently labeled Northwest Arkansas as the “Green Valley”. This moniker comes from a recent developments in this area of the state dedicated to helping businesses and people become environmentally friendly.
The center of green activity is Fayetteville, where organic coffee shops and restaraunts abound and Mayor Dan Coody rides an electric bicycle to work. One of the larger “green” businesses in Fayetteville is dedicated to helping giant Wal-Mart become more sustainable and “green”. The logic of course is that if a leader such as Wal-Mart becomes environmentally friendly, then other businesses will follow suit.
Even a new Sam’s Club shopping center in Fayetteville is environmentally friendly. This “sustainable” Sam’s Club features many energy saving features such as LED lights, skylights, on-site water treatment and much more. Area residents are thrilled that the store decided to make their new location “green”.
With concern about the environment on the rise, green businesses are only going to strengthen and become more profitable. Northwest Arkansas, with Fayetteville leading the way, is going to be a major player in this field.
