Texas’ economy is red hot right now, and has been so for some time.  Abilene sometimes doesn’t draw a great deal of attention, but has had some notable economic development activity during the past several months.

The Development Corporation of Abilene has approved in late January the completion of the third speculative building in the Abilene’s Five Points Business Park.

Rose Builders, Inc. began construction in December on a $6 million warehouse expansion in the Five Points Business Park that houses PWP Industries, a manufacturer of plastic food containers.

In November of 2007 the Senior Safe at Home Company announced the opening of their national Client Service Center in Abilene and the hiring of the system’s CEO.  The company’s payroll will approach $1 million in the next several years.

In October of 2007 the FPL Group, one of Fortune magazines most admired companies of 2007, announced the creation of a “land office” to support its wind generated electric power operations in the region.  The company has opened a warehouse in Abilene and expects its staff to grow significantly over the next several years.

In October of 2007 the Texas Workforce Commission announced a nearly half million dollar grant to help train local workers in manufacturing skills, with 75 to 100 certified workers expected to train in the system being sponsored locally by Cisco Junior College and Western Texas College.
