Dave Lindahl’s Emerging Real Estate Markets: How to Find and Profit From Up and Coming Neighborhoodsis one of the very few books written for the active real estate investor that offers a global view of the steps necessary to find, investigate, and invest in emerging markets.
Lindahl is the principal of The Lindahl Group, a Boston based multifamily investing group that is active all over the country, as well as the leader of RE Mentor, a publishing and seminar company that trains real estate investors in several different arenas.
Published in October of 2007 by Wiley, Lindahl’s effort has been well received and he has used the book to share his passion - multifamily investing in emerging markets. Lindahl shares a very inspiring rags to riches story which took place in his home market (Brockton, Mass.) over the past decade, and Lindahl is one of the few gurus who is really in the trenches every day practicing what he preaches.
The book has been criticized in some circles for being a bit far reaching and thus less detailed than many would like - this is not a topic that can be covered in a simple single book, and for starters we’d advise reading the book (it covers the topic quite well), and then attending one of Lindahl’s multifamily investing seminars.
A word of disclosure - we’re Lindahl fans and feel his information and advice has been right on the mark for the years we’ve known him, and we in fact owe Dave a mark of gratitude for exposing us to the world of emerging markets (it’s not his concept alone, but Dave is the guy who opened the door of understanding for us).
A worthwhile addition to any investor’s library, even if you’re not investing outside of your own market - this would be a great introduction to the concept.
