Mutual of Omaha recently broke ground for Midtown Crossing at Turner Park, a $300 million mixed-use development in Omaha, Neb., that will bring nearly 600 apartments and condominiums, as well as new dining, retail and entertainment venues, to historic Midtown Omaha.  The groundbreaking signals the official start of construction on the project, which will be built in a single phase and is slated to open in the fall of 2009, according to Mutual Senior Vice President John McClelland.

Human capital management company C&A Industries Inc. opened its new corporate headquarters building, C&A Plaza, in June in Omaha.  The company cited the skilled work force available in the metro area as a reason why it chose Omaha for the project. C&A Industries plans to aggressively hire additional employees in order to meet the growing demand of its customers nationwide. The company anticipates increasing the number of internal corporate employees by 30 percent by the end of 2008 — a total of 150 new positions. Long term, C&A Plaza, in combination with the company’s other location in Omaha, intends to add 400 employees to its work force.

XIT Networks, LLC, based in Spring, Texas, announced 26 February 2008 that Omaha is the site for its Cyber Defense Security Center (CDSC), located at the Scott Technology Center. “In order to proactively detect and respond to national security threats, the CDSC uses a centralized, multi-layered defense network system. Omaha will serve as the hub for this network, managing and securing communications and information-sharing services throughout the world,” said Steven Bloom, Vice President, Contracts Administration, with XIT Networks. “While much of our impetus in locating in Omaha was to serve the military and defense contractors here, there is ample bandwidth in our network to serve commercial and government entities as well, and we’re excited about extending our advanced security technology and services to them. The CDSC gives client organizations the ability to extend their information networks to voice, video and wireless communications because it protects the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive data.
