In yesterday’s Daily Data Discussion we looked briefly at the logic behind tracking population growth changes in markets, and what increased population means and can portend for a community.

What about the communities with the worst population growth trends in the latter half of this decade?  As noted yesterday, the following numbers represent our internal analysis of documented growth trends and the available growth projection data.

Here are the bottom 5 2005-2010 population growth cities in our database as of today; the number in parentheses is the projected population growth rate for 2005-2010) –

1.  Lawton, OK (-8%)
2.  Great Falls, MT (-3.8%)
3.  Providence, RI (-1.8%)
4.  Wichita Falls, TX (-1.5%)
5.  Syracuse, NY (-1.3%)
