Things have been so busy around the office this month we almost forgot to post this month’s free state by state rankings of Total Nonfarm Employment Growth rates (6 month rolling averages) as well as Unemployment.
Not surprisingly given the overall state of the economy the list of states this month with the best employment growth rates are the same as last month, though the leaders’ growth rates have all cooled a point or two. Somewhat surprisingly Wyoming still leads the nation in total nonfarm employment growth rate (3.3%), bouyed by very strong construction as well as trade / transportation / utilities supersectors. The unemployment leaders remain the same as far as the top 5 go this month, led by Idaho with an unemployment rate (6 month rolling average) of 2.7% - pretty impressive given the stressors the economy is bearing these days.
Michigan retains the dubious honor of being last in employment growth (-1.5%) as well as unemployment rate (7.3%).
