The Bureau of Labor Statistics has just released today 20 June state level nonfarm employment growth and unemployment data; we’ve analyzed the data and run the numbers.
Wyoming continues to lead the way with a 3.1% growth rate, followed by Texas at 2.4%, Utah at 2.3%, and Louisiana / Colorado / Washington all clocking 1.9% growth rates this past month. Eight of the top ten and eleven of the top fifteen states are west of the Mississippi once again.
We’ve just posted the FREE PDF file for this month’s data (current through May 2008) detailing state by state nonfarm employment growth rates for all 50 states. Here’s a link to our Free Resources page where the PDF is posted.
States are ranked in our posting based on a 6 month rolling average of the reported total nonfarm employment growth provided by the BLS; the number the BLS reports is the annualized growth rate, which of course changes every month. We still think the 6 month rolling average tends to dampen out the swings in data the BLS tends to report and then later revise.
