The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index data released yesterday has certainly made the rounds and been commented on ad nauseum. As you’ve no doubt heard by now, the index valued dropped to 50.4, its lowest level since 1992. The Board’s Expectations Index declined to 41.0, it lowest level in the history of the tool.

Economic development updates for El Centro covering recent months include:
Stirling Energy Systems plans to build the “world’s largest solar plant” in nearby Ocotillo. Construction on the plant could begin in 2010. Over 500 construction jobs will be created, and up to 1,500 jobs could be eventually created by the plant.

Once again the media is breathlessly reporting the results of today’s S&P/ Case-Shiller data, which details ongoing price declines in “every region of the country”. The 10-City Index is down 16.3% year-over-year and the 20-City Index is down 15.3% year-over-year.
