Yesterday’s Daily Data Discussion post spent some time reviewing a bit of the background information on the Milken Best Performing Cites ranking tool;  we hope you spent some time looking over the myriad offerings the Milken Institute makes available.  They have some very intelligent and creative minds on their team.

Today’s post deals with the markets at the bottom of the Milken Institute’s Best Performing Small Cities Index; these are the lowest ranked five of the 179 markets analyzed.  Again keep in mind that the currently available rankings were prepared in 2007, and there has been a lot of economic water to pass under the bridge since then.

Here are the bottom five markets on the Milken Institute’s Best Performing Small Cities Index –

1. Springfield, OH (179)
2. Battle Creek, MI (178)
3. Niles-Benton Harbor, MI (177)
4. Steubenville, WV (176)
5. Anderson, IN (175)

Have a great weekend and we’ll be back on Monday with a look at the markets around the country leading in total nonfarm job growth, followed by unemployment on Tuesday.
