Economic development updates for Durham covering recent months include:

Merck is expanding their vaccine manufacturing facility in Durham.  The expansion, which will include bulk vaccine manufacturing, warehousing and office space, will be completed by 2011.  The facility, which was completed earlier this year, includes a sterile processing facility and testing labs.  The facility will be shipping vaccines by 2009.  The new expansion will create 150 to 180 new jobs at the facility.

BD, formerly known as Becton, Dickinson and Co., is a medical technology company based in New Jersey.  The company announced plans earlier this year to expand three facilities in Durham.  Over the next five years, the company will invest over $134 million in the area and will create over 270 new jobs.
