We have several new things in the works here at Redfish, and are in the process of putting the finishing touches on a market ranking index for home-owners (owner occupied traditional homebuyers).  This is an un-official pre-announement; we’ve just been having so many questions from people we’ve chatted with about it, we needed to make some type of “hold your horses” announcement.

We’ve put this together as part of our database revision / update made over the past month or five weeks, and have done so in response to many different requests for the information.

Simply put, despite the doom and gloom you hear espoused in the media on a daily basis, there are people out there who continue to buy homes to live in.  Many of these kind folks are facing moves induced by family or work related issues; for the myriad number of reasons that people have bought homes in the past, they continue to do so.  (Some of us would readily argue that is not anywhere close to an optimal wealth building strategy these days, but that’s a topic for another day).

Despite the many requests we’ve had for information of this sort over the months (and even years), we’ve focused on researching markets and providing information for real estate investors as our primary mission.

As a team we feel strongly that the when viewed from a “macro-perspective” the single family housing mess is far from over.  We can’t see the mythical “bottom” in most markets on any near term calendar we ponder daily, and agree with those who postulate that (again in some markets) years will pass before single family sanity is restored.

We in fact will continue to argue that there is truly “not a national housing market” given the extraordinary diversity in market fundamentals (for single family owner occupied housing as well as other asset classes) observed when comparing market to market to market.

That said, we’ll be announcing in the next week or so an Index which assesses the strength of key market fundamentals for home-owners (owner occupied traditional homebuyers).  Coincident with this announcement will be some web site changes and improvements, and we’ll spell those out as we implement them soon.

Our bread and butter business is researching and analyzing markets for investors, and we pledge to not forget that.  We have some information that will offer some helpful insights to those who feel compelled to purchase homes today, and we feel obliged to share that information.  For you hard-core real estate folks out there, we think you’ll find this very interesting.
