Several of our board team have sent a heads up in today regarding an article published at Brookings today – “A Brief Guide to Fixing Finance”. 

Written by a couple of their senior fellows – Martin N. Baily and Robert E. Litan, the article has a particularly good, if not over-simplified, explanation of what went wrong.  If you’re struggling to explain the current debacle to less financially literate family and friends, the article will give you some solid, concise talking points. 

We think it’s very important for real estate investing professionals to have a firm grasp of what has happened historically to the markets and the American financial system.  If you don’t understand the history, you’ll never understand the discussion on how to fix it, and the resultant “fixes” (pun intended). 

As always, while this is a very well written opinion piece from a couple of knowledgeable gentlemen, it doesn’t outline all the possible solutions.
