Recent economic development news for Champaign includes:
Green Mill Village, a new eco-friendly resort and conference center, is being developed in Arcola. The $30 million, 63.5 acre resort will house a hotel, shops, restaurants, a spa and education center. It will be a draw for guests from the Chicago, Indianapolis and St. Louis areas, as well as many others. The complex will be powered by wind and solar energy and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2010. It is expected to create 200+ jobs, some of which will go to Amish, who will give tours of the local countryside. Green Mill Village will have a simple, slower-paced theme, reflecting the 1940s era. A key element of the complex will be the Adventure Center, an education-based attraction highlighting green practices, energy, wellness and agriculture.
