We’ve just posted the state by state unemployment rankings for November on the Free Resources page of the website – download the free PDF here.
As always rankings are provided based on the 6-month rolling average of the current unemployment rates (U3) provided monthly by the BLS, and we’ve incorporated the revisions that have taken place during the past month as well. Data is available through the month of October.
Of interest –
- South Dakota continues to lead the pack with an impressive 3.1% unemployment rate, only up 0.1% from September’s data.
- The top six states are fairly tightly clustered in the rankings, all under a 4% unemployment rate.
- Only five states noted a drop in unemployment in October – North Dakota, New York, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
- Unemployment rates were stable (unchanged September to October) in only seven states
- 38 states noted worsening unemployment rates.
- The very worst of the pack - Michigan and Rhode Island – had their unemployment rates for October hit 9.3%. That’s another ouch.
As noted below – we’ll have more commentary up about the data over the next several days…..
