What sad news this morning to hear that mortgage industry expert and Calculated Risk blogger Doris “Tanta” Dungey passed away yesterday morning after a long and for a time seemingly successful battle with ovarian cancer.

She was only 47, and had worked as a mortgage banker for twenty years; most importantly she wrote with insight and clarity rarely noted in one so young – in fact rarely seen at all in this day of convoluted news reporting and ranting bloggers.

Tanta’s commentary was very widely read and respected; she has recently be quoted by the likes of Paul Krugman at the NYT, Federal Reserve researchers, Felix Salmon at Conde Nast Portfolio, etc.

David Streitfeld wrote a nice memorial in the NYT today, and the man behind Calculated Risk, Bill McBride, announced the sad news in this post.

RIP Tanta, you shall be missed.  For the rest of us - every day should must be lived to its fullest.
